Most stitchers never show anyone the back.

Above is the square border project from the book, photographed from the front and back. The pattern reads the same on both sides.

There is a knot near the bottom border. I didn't spot it until the piece was finished. You can also see where I fastened off, because every piece has to start and finish somewhere.

That's the back the method gives you. Not flawless. One you are happy to turn over.

I'll never forget watching a school friend stitch an intricate blackwork frog. When she turned it over, the back was identical to the front.

My attempts? They always ended in a tangled, messy forest.
